Where do I get Ideas for my Content on LinkedIn?

NEW WEEK Commencing 20 May
This is my latest blog post for my week on LinkedIn regarding my content in the hope that you get some inspiration from what I create. It’s your chance to see why I have written each post and more importantly a look at the numbers behind each post so that you can see how it all works.
Feel free to borrow my ideas and try what works in your own content and please reach out if you want a hand. I am always available on LinkedIn to have a natter in the direct messages.
Here’s this week.
Views Last Week 2,209 - Down 35% on the previous week, which is what I expected. At the peak I had 383 people looking at my profile.

Views This Week 2,186 - Down another 38% but still at levels higher than prior to Accountex. I was expecting a significant drop. This coming week is half term so there will be much fewer people on the platform. I only had 164 people looking at my profile the last seven days which is very low compared to previous weeks.

Followers
Last Week 7,652 added another 99 on the previous week
This Week - 7,686 which means that I have only added 34 more followers this week.
833 Search appearances last week! 855 searches this week which is another increase.

Hashtag Follows This Week 150 this week up another 3. Going in the right direction

With our LinkedIn Local fast approaching I wanted to share the love and get more people coming along. Traditionally I have created an event and invited people that way. The post never performed very well.
I’ve just gone back to see.
Here is the performance from my March Event post. I had 1,178 impressions, 18 Reactions, 54 comments, and 3 Reposts. To save you from looking at the bottom of this post here are the figures without the event feature. I had 2,112 impressions, 64 Reactions, 79 comments, and 0 reposts Much more engagement, but fewer people at the event!!
I keep saying that the engagement is much lower, but that this is the best way to invite people to the event and this goes to prove it eh?
So next time that you want people at an event, create an event post. You’ll not get much engagement, but you will get people turning up and surely that’s more important.
Here’s my different idea of getting people to my event!

Who is your partner in crime?
Or your Best Business Buddy who helps you with your thing?
For me, it's the delightful Odessa Sherreard. Always smiling, always helpful and the one to put other people first.
I love working with Odessa and I guess from her smile/laugh in the photo that she feels the same about working with me 😂
We're pictured at the gorgeous Froginwell Vineyard Event Venue where we met with other business owners at a networking event.
It's because of events like this that I set up our very own LinkedIn Local in Sidmouth.
LinkedIn Local started thanks to the amazing Anna McAfee and has grown to become something of a phenomenon.
So why not start one in the glorious seaside town of Sidmouth?
Our LinkedIn Local is a small affair meeting before we all need to be at work with no fixed agenda so that the local people of East Devon can catch up and have a natter over a cup of tea or coffee with a bacon buttie.
I prefer to chat with local business owners so we currently do not have a speaker slot. We do however have some great content as both Odessa and I share some top tips for getting more out of LinkedIn and how content works.
It's just a few minute's interlude to add a bit of value.
But the real value is the networking
Lots of lovely people just chatting and getting to know each other.
We have many different people turning up each time.
We run the event every other month on the fourth Thursday of the month. The next one is Thursday 25 May. Book here if you'd like to join us https://lnkd.in/egiFpfg3
What are your favourite networking meetings?

I purchased this amazing artwork at the weekend and gave the stall holder some help to maximise her sales. This got me thinking. Do you do the same?
And therefore this post was formed!
What do you think?

Do you ever give free advice related to your business?
You know the thing, when you’re in a social situation or something a little bit different?
It happened to me yesterday.
I was at a festival where they had some charity stores selling their wares.
My eye was taken by this amazing turtle painting and I subsequently bought it. It's now got pride of place in our living room!!
But rather than take it there and then I said to the store holder to leave it on the stand and they could deliver it to me at a later date that was convenient to them.
With that she asked her daughter to put a sold sign on the painting.
This is where the advice came in.
I said you don’t wanna be doing that, and I explained that if people see that it’s still for sale they may enquire about it. You'll then have to say that you’re really sorry but it has been sold.
You explain that you could commission another one. Collect their mail address and therefore you’re building up a list of people who are interested in the works of art.
She was absolutely blown away by this advice, but as a charity stallholder, probably never had any marketing advice and so this little nugget will help the charity raise more funds.
The best news is that when I went back to pick up the painting later on in the afternoon they had half a dozen enquiries so they had six people but they could then email and ask them.
If I had taken this painting away no one would’ve known it even existed.
Has this happened to you?
What sort of things have you done in the past?
Do you like the painting?

MONDAY 22 May 1,312 impressions
It’s Monday again, so another video.
Enjoy. I love Mondays because I do not have to think about what to write about. Once you get a regular feature it becomes so easy. What regular feature could you do? Could you do a regular video?

What is the best content for LinkedIn?
Do you sit there trying to come up with ideas for what to write on LinkedIn?
Stop worrying.
Every Monday I create my Monday Nudge.
It's a newsletter to help people come up with ideas for creating content and it isn;t exclusive for LinkedIn.
And then I create a video too.
Because video is popular, it's easy to consume, and it works.
One of my clients told me the other day that he loves watching my video with a cup of coffee on a Monday morning. It set him up for the week.
But get this. He doesn't often comment, so I never knew. So for him, I'll keep doing these videos.
Here are my idea this week.
💚 Half Term
💛 Barbecues
💚 Rugby Union
💛 Free Advice
💚 Cycling
So what topic are you going to dig into to create content?
Please shout if you want a hand.
In a couple of weeks time I'll be running my free LinkedIn Drop In Surgery. DM if you'd like to come.
If you use any of these ideas for your content this week, please tag me if you'd like me to review your post in a personalised video.
Good luck, and remember. You get out what you put in

My little girl ran a half marathon so we all went along to support her. It was an emotional day and fantastic to see her achieve her goals. But because we all love good news stories I used this as some content.
But rather than tell the story I asked a few questions and got more engagement. So much so in fact that I am still getting comments now, a week later!!
What good news stories could you share?

Who inspires you?
Do your children make you proud?
This is a picture of my not-so-little girl at the end of the Great West Run, a half marathon in Exeter this Sunday.
Look at her face beaming and she's opening a celebratory bottle of Prosecco to share with her two friends who ran with her.
She's never run before, but seeing her friend run the London Marathon in 2022 inspired her to give it a go and she entered that day along with her two friends.
Over the next 12 months, they have been out training. Sometimes on their own and sometimes as a trio.
But they had a plan and each month they would increase the distance.
A half marathon doesn't sound like much, but it's 20km and took over 2 hours, so loads of will power and energy is needed to run.
To say this dad is proud is an understatement.
She has done it, the hard work paid off and she now knows that if she puts her mind to something she can achieve anything.
So many lessons were learned on Sunday, not just for my daughter, but for the whole family.
Thank you for being my little ray of sunshine kiddo ❤️
How have your children inspired you?

WEDNESDAY 24 May 2,602 impressions
I have a speaking slot at a big event coming up so why not celebrate the fact. People love to hear how you are doing so why not share what you are up to?
Is it bragging? Or does it help people with their own worries to just have a go? I love to inspire people and if I can do something like this, then anyone can.
What could you share about your business journey?

How often do you push yourself outside your comfort zone?
Does it take you loads of effort, do you panic, or do you embrace the challenge to help you grow?
On the 17 June I will be right out of my comfort zone when I'll be speaking on the same stage as professional speakers such as Will Polston, Debra Stevens, Neil Mullarkey the actor from 2 Austin Powers movies and the latest host of RTE"s The Late Late Show, Patrick Kielty.
My hands are sweating just writing this.
OMG
But the worst part is that Michael Heppell, because it is a TEAM17 event, has insisted that I talk for 17 minutes 🤦♂️
I'm the 15 Minute Guy 😱
How on earth can I do an extra 2 minutes? I'd love your suggestions please.
This event is going to be epic with so many speakers and a great host in Michael it will be the first time that some of us have met and I bet Patrick cannot wait to meet me 😂
💚 When was the last time you were put outside of your comfort zone?
💛 Do you look for opportunities like this?
💚 Does this fill you with terror?

I have three networking events today and wanted to get a few people thinking about the value of networking. So I started with a question and added a few photos during the day too.
I also used Canva to create the image which is a montage of the hosts of these networking events.
All three events were great and enabled me to speak to some great people to find out more about business.
I didn’t go to any of these events to make money or sell my wares. I go to meet people and expand my network so that more people know me and I also know more people. People who may be able to help me or my clients, contacts and friends.
Staying at home never did this!
Do you network?

What value do you get from networking?
Did you realise that networking makes you happy?
We are tribal, we need community, and the best benefit from networking is just meeting people and having a good natter.
It doesn't have to be about business, it doesn't have to be about winning a new client.
It can just be a great place to meet people whom you may not normally catch up with.
Wellbeing and mindfulness gurus talk about how important it is to be part of a community. Just ask Steve Ware what he thinks.
Today it's all about connecting for me.
Starting off with the one and only Odessa Sherreard at our LinkedIn Local in Sidmouth at 7:30am where we'll get to meet people mainly from East Devon.
We also have some people who travel as far as Somerset and Dorset because the bacon baps are so good. Or is it the company? A couple of people have said they are not coming so if you want to join us please just turn up at The Balfour here in Sidmouth.
Later today I have been invited back to the lovely "Work Together, Get Together" networking event organised by Everys Solicitors LLP where my very good friend Will Vine will be there. Plus lots of other Exeter-based business owners.
And then hot off the heels of that event the delightfully colourful 🍋 Rosetta Westbrook is hosting a party to celebrate her first year in business.
All the cool kids will be there so I cannot wait to catch up. I may be a little late, but I won't have far to go.
Later this morning I'm speaking with my LinkedIn Daily Habit Workshop students and have a meeting with an old colleague, and this morning I bumped into another friend of mine and we had a natter too.
It's all about people eh?
How is today going to pan out for you?
What lovely people will you be seeing?

FRIDAY 26 May 1,558 impressions
Here we go again, another Gratitude post. When I started this about 5 months ago I didn't know how it would work and what engagement I got. I did it for myself after talking to a few people about gratitude and listening to Mo Gawdat about the value of sharing gratitude.
This Friday post has grown now and I see so many more people doing similar posts about why they are grateful.
When we look at the good things in life, we feel so much better and the bad things do not seem so bad.
Go on, give it a try. What are you grateful for?

What has made the week for you?
What are you grateful for? Who has been there for you? Who gave you a big hug?
⭐️ 🥳 🙏 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐒. 🙏 🥳 ⭐️
Each Friday I share my gratitude and thanks to all the fantastic people in my network who have lifted me up over the last week.
Who or what has impacted your week? Did the car start the first time? Was the milk still fresh? All your little wins count!
What a lovely week and I think the first winner is the weather. How nice to see the sun again, but please be careful, the UV is super high so please wear sunscreen!! ☀️
It's been a bit of a Brad Burton week for me. After spending the afternoon with him last week, he also appeared on my LinkedIn Live Show. 15 Minutes for Accountants & Bookkeepers. It's now a cracking podcast. Thank you, Brad, you brightened up my week. Great mushrooms! 🙏 👊 💥
LinkedIn Local Sidmouth!
Thank you to all the lovely people who came out nice and early for breakfast in the garden. You are all lovely and I hope you had as much fun as me. Big up to my co-host Odessa Sherreard. When you have a superstar like Odessa in your corner, you are always gonna win. Thank you Kiddo 🙏. ❤️
Gotta give a shout-out to Richard Carpenter as he was at all of the networking events that I went to yesterday. Starting in Sidmouth, then at the wonderful Every's bash and finally at 🍋 Rosetta Westbrook's cracking little birthday party. I missed a selfie with the lovely hostess, but I did get hug. I also had a great chinwag with Richard. Thank you buddy 🙏 🥳 And congratulations Rosetta 🧡
Thank you to Will Vine for inviting me to the Everys Solicitors LLP Work Together, Get Together Event where I was made so welcome and had a good chat with Gay Cherryson and Donna Hart Thank you 🙏 😁
And finally to my lovely 31st Cohort who have been having fun learning LinkedIn with me this week. Asking loads of great questions and getting to love LinkedIn and getting more from this incredible platform. Thank you, Gang!! Do you love it yet? 💚 💛
I'm glad it's the Bank Holiday now. I can have a lie-down 😂
What are YOUR highlights for this week? How were the last 7 days?
Come on, give someone a big shout-out!!

What are my thoughts on this week?
Another drop in numbers again this week, which I was expecting due to the extra hype of Accountex a couple of weeks ago.
Here is the breakdown.
Last week I had 19,074 impressions 907 engagements
This week it is 17,416 impressions but the engagements are still doing well with 898

It is all about the engagement, so if you write content that people love then they will react either with a like or better still, with their own thoughts.

If you ask questions and keep commenting then people will feel empowered to pick up a conversation with you. But you must comment back!!
Here are my best 6 posts this week.
