Navigating the Roller Coaster of Social Media Reach: A Weekly Reflection

NEW WEEK Commencing 14 October

My Weekly Blog: What Do I Do with Content Each Week?

I engage in my weekly blog for several reasons:

1. Content Improvement:

Every Saturday, I make it a point to review my content from the past week. This is an important part of my routine because I am passionate about understanding how my content performs. I look at who views it, who engages with it, and who takes an interest in it. This analysis helps me create better content going forward.

2. Staying Informed:

The weekly content review isn't just about my content; it's also a way for me to stay informed about current trends and what's resonating with my audience. By constantly evaluating my strategies, I ensure that I'm delivering what truly matters to people.

3. Transparency:

One of the benefits of this practice is the transparency it offers. I'm open about sharing my analytics, allowing others to see what works and what doesn't. By doing so, I hope to provide valuable insights and guidance for those on their own content creation journey.

In essence, my weekly blog not only serves as a reflection of my content philosophy but also as an opportunity to inspire others in their content creation endeavours. It's a way for clients and prospective clients to gain a deeper understanding of why I engage in content creation and to find motivation for their own writing pursuits.

Previous Week

My numbers this week have dropped by 19% with only 206 people viewing my profile this week. However, the number of people who have viewed my profile in the last 90 days is up to 2,193.

Views This Week My numbers this week have dropped by 19% again so down to just 206 people viewing my profile this week. However, the number of people who have viewed my profile in the last 90 days is up to 2,227. Odd.

In the previous week my numbers were at 8,611 only 60 new followers.

This Week - 8,654 only 43 new followers this week. Reach this week has been very poor, although I’m hearing that this is across the board, so not just me.

917 Search appearances for the previous week and 820 searches this week. Down a huge jump this week which I guess is down to the lower reach across LinkedIn/

Follows Last Week 174

Follows This Week 174 no change. This has been static for a month now.

SATURDAY 14 October 2,447 impressions

On Saturday I used a photo that I took during the week. I was still trying to decide what to write about on Saturday morning but I had a quick scan through my photos on my phone and this one jumped out and I talked about branding. This is a great tip for when you are stuck!

So basically it was a photo of my shirts drying on an airer.

Many people have branded apparel, but does it bring them joy? I talked about branding by starting the question, does your branding bring you joy?

Have you looked through your camera roll recently?

Does your branding bring you joy?

When your branded clothing is messing up the house because it's drying does it bring a smile to your face?

When you have a bright colour such as yellow it's hard not to smile eh?

I have 6 yellow shirts so if you see me wearing what looks like the same shirt, please note that it is clean 😁

They make a great display come wash day, but what about your branding?

How did you come up with the colours?

Share your photos of your branded goods and let's brighten up a dull grey Saturday.

Any pink or purple brands out there?

Who else is YELLOW?

SUNDAY 15 October 2,850 impressions

On Sunday, I did a poll. This is because I had an email from a company asking me to do a survey for some recent products I had purchased. I wondered how many other people skip past surveys or whether or not they get involved.

While I was writing the post, I thought that this could be a poll as I like to mix up my content.

Not so many people engage so much with a poll as it’s dead easy to just click the voting button. But that's the thing with polls. But great reach as a payoff.

When was the last time you did a poll?

What do you do when you see this message?

"Can you spare two minutes to give us your valued feedback?" Do you give two minutes or hit delete?

When companies ask us for feedback what do you think?

When I've delivered a LinkedIn Daily Habit Workshop I always ask for feedback because I want to ensure that I continue delivering value.

💚 I want to improve my teaching

💛 I want to learn more

💚 I want to help

I run small courses so many people love to help me with their feedback. But when a huge company asks me, do they really listen to my feedback?

Does anyone ever win the voucher? 😂

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts and what we can all do to ensure we get the best feedback to help us improve.

Why do you hit yes?

MONDAY 16 October 1,174 impressions

On Monday I always do my videos, 5 ideas for LinkedIn, and I try to find somewhere different for the video. My reach this week was not as good as normal but this one was shot in my garden.

Sometimes I go to areas where it's a little bit picturesque, different or if I'm doing something different I’ll create the video there. You never can tell how a video post will function. So this week I need to come up with something a little bit different.

Are you shivering at your computer wondering what to write for your post?

Stuck for ideas and staring at a blinking cursor? We all have those days which is why I create this video every Monday to help you.

In my video are 5 Topics to talk about in your content this week.

Watch the video to find out more about my ideas

💚 Doctor Who

💛 National Recycling Week

💚 Horror Movies

💛 UK Coffee Week and Community Involvement

💚 Turning on the Heating

Don't forget that by creating content you'll be front of mind and people will see you as a creator. With only 1% of LinkedIn™️ members creating content, you'll soon stand out.

It's all about consistency!!

If you need a hand, please shout.

Have a creative week.

Previous Week

Last week I had 1,307 impressions which is lower than last week. Maybe the danger of the ladder put people off? Reactions are lower at 19 as are the comments down by ten to 27. For the video, I had 425 views from 389 viewers and 126 minutes watched, which is also lower than last week. If the engagement is up then you get more views.

This Week

This week I had 1,174 impressions which is lower again than last week. I’ve done a few videos in my garden! Reactions were higher at 28 as are the comments up by a healthy 18 to 45. For the video, I had 332 views from 105 viewers and 87 minutes watched. Which is also lower than last week. Interesting how the numbers are working this week.

TUESDAY 17 October 1,427 impressions

On Tuesday I was celebrating the 200th edition of my Live LinkedIn show. So to make it look cool I used a photo I took on the second birthday of my business. For that photo, I had a cardboard cutout of the number 2. I then went into Canva to improve that image by adding two zeros and I called it celebration day.

I kicked off the post by asking how would you celebrate hitting a milestone.

How do you celebrate hitting a milestone?

Do you even bother because it can be seen as self-indulging and you worry about what people think?

It's funny the conversations that we have in our heads eh?

So I'm ignoring my silly brain and just going for it.

Today I am celebrating my 200th LinkedIn™️ Live show at 12:30 here on LinkedIn™️.

And to celebrate I have asked three of my lovely LinkedIn™️ Friends to come along for a chat.

In alphabetical order

These are the guys who inspire me to help people with LinkedIn™️ and to have people like this in my corner is why I'm loving my business.

200 live shows, over 100 hours of content with around 200 different people and they are all still on my YouTube Channel.

When you stop and look back it's quite amazing what we can achieve with a bit of consistency.

So if you'd like to celebrate with us, please join in at 12:30 when we go live. And with so many LinkedIn™️ experts in one room if you have any questions we should be able to help😁

The link for the reminder is here

Or just turn up on my profile at 12:30 today. Three cheers for Gillian as she is in the US so it means a bit of an early start 😂

What are you celebrating?

Or what are you ignoring 😂

WEDNESDAY 18 October 2,744 impressions

On Wednesday, I shared the fact that I had been nominated for the Silver Lining Award. I was nominated because of my unwavering optimism. People love seeing people succeed and because I'm always so positive, I got an awful lot of amazing reactions and comments from this post.

And so it's heartwarming. In fact, some of the comments I'm getting. I'm going to use in my application form when I send it to the judges!

I cannot believe my luck. 🥳

I've only gone and been nominated for a local business award because of my unwavering optimism.

I had an email saying that I had been nominated for the "Silver Lining Award" in the upcoming NOTTYS.

This is for "Celebrating the person who always has a positive mindset, inspiring & motivating others with their unwavering optimism"

Whoever nominated me. Thank you 🙏

The event is run by Chris Bentley and all at the Notworking Networking events company to celebrate all the local heroes doing their bit in the wider community.

And sponsored by Hospiscare here in Exeter

Just getting nominated is pretty awesome. But now I have to complete an application form.

I need to say why I should win the award.

I'm not one for blowing my own trumpet. 🤦‍♂️

What would you do if you were nominated? Any suggestions are gratefully received.

If you've ever been a judge, please let me know what you would be looking for.

The event is in November so you still have time to nominate deserving people. you can find out more here

THURSDAY 19 October 432 impressions

On Thursday, I shared the fact that I was doing a live show with Jeff Brown next week on YouTube and although I know that using an event post doesn't get much reach, this one really bombed

This has really hurt my reach this week but I wanted to get people to come to the event, so how else can you make people interested?

So I need to work on that because the event post doesn't do so well.

With my weekly live shows, I share the event post late in the evening rather than making it my main post.

Did you know that doing a live show on LinkedIn™️ has some restrictions?

We are not allowed to give away LinkedIn™️ Training tip or help people with LinkedIn™️ 🤦‍♂️. Who Knew?

Well to be fair I did, this is why I chat with people rather than give away LinkedIn™️ help on my live shows.

But my guest next week is such a superstar on LinkedIn™️ I HAVE to talk LinkedIn™️ and get some tips from him too.

Introducing Jeff Brown 🥳 ⭐️ 📷

For one week only I will be jumping over to YouTube with Jeff as we record a new edition of my Podcast LIVE on YouTube.

This will give you the opportunity to listen in to Jeff's story, but also ask us ANYTHING you like about LinkedIn™️.

💚 How Jeff is getting new clients

💛 Top Tips for consistency

💚 Photo advice from Jeff

💛 Shortcuts and hacks

FRIDAY 20 October 1,443 impressions

And finally, on Friday, I always do my gratitude post and this week was no exception, although I started off by telling everybody that this week has been tough.

I started it differently from how I normally start. I normally start with a question, but I start off with a statement. Better engagement this week!!

I'll not lie. This week has been tough.

But because I journal my gratitude every day, I got through and today I am reflecting on the highlights. Because there is always something to grateful for.

What are you grateful for?

⭐️ 🥳 🙏 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐒. 🙏 🥳 ⭐️

Who has impacted your week?

I've had some great Zoom meetings this week and another exciting one today. Two highlights were Becky Whittaker who shared some insights with me. Thank you Becky. ❤️ 🙏

Another cracking Zoom was catching up with Meghan Douglas who is doing great things to help the amazing Maxine Cunningham bring Pick My Brain to the world. I think we'll be having some more meetings. Thank you Meghan Have a great birthday ❤️ 🙏

200 Live Shows on LinkedIn™️ and what better way than to have some awesome friends join me? Thank you to

You made it such a special show. Thank you 💚 💛 🙏 ✅ ⭐️ 🥳

And to cap the week was my nomination for the Silver Lining Award at the Nottys as organised by Chris Bentley. But not the nomination, all the lovely messages that I received when I shared my good fortune.

The people of LinkedIn™️ are gorgeous, helpful friendly and there when you need them. Thank you ❤️ 🙏

And one special mention to a very special person. She moved things around to have a chat to help me with my application and gave me a huge hug just when I needed it. You know who you are 💚 Thank you so much.

Sometimes it is tough, but we can get through it.

Thank you for being here ❤️

What are my thoughts on this week?

Reach has been down from what I am hearing and seeing myself. We should not let this bother us. We just need to keep being consistent and showing up regularly. My Post on Thursday for the event didn’t help, especially after such a great post on Wednesday.

Here is the breakdown.

Previous week

Last week witnessed a significant surge in impressions, totalling 22,144. Nevertheless, the chart indicated a 1% decline. My engagement statistics also appeared lower, with an 8% decrease, although the numbers themselves stood impressively at 824

This week

This week's reach is low across the platform so my impressions have dropped to 17,622 with nearly a 25% drop. However, the chart says a drop of 1% However, my engagement has shot up by more than 25% with 271 people engaging on my content on Wednesday alone. It just goes to show that reach and impressions do not count as much as engagement eh?

That’s why it’s important to create engaging content.

Here are my five best-performing posts this week.
