Is the LinkedIn Algorithm Broken? I share my analytics to let you compare your numbers with mine.

NEW WEEK Commencing 24 June
This is my weekly blog that shares my content from the previous week with my ideas and how they have performed.
I share my analytics, too, so that you can see what I get up to and maybe use my information as some sort of benchmark.
This is interesting, I am back at the desk and have been active on LinkedIn, but my numbers had not shot up this week compared to last week when I was away. I am, however, hearing all kinds of stories of poor performance because of all the glitches and the changes in the algorithm.
I don't worry about the algorithm.
I worry about being present, adding value, and being consistent.
If I worry about everything else, I’ll tie myself up in knots and miss the point or miss the content.
Have you heard the story of the tortoise and the hare? I am the tortoise, slow and steady but making progress every single day. Can you weave 15 minutes into your day to be consistent?
Here are my thoughts and numbers for this week.
Views Last Week 2,209 - was lower than the previous week because of my being away without internet access. Well, that’s what I thought.

Views This Week 2,203 -The overall number has dropped but the chart says an increase 13%, with only an extra 28 people looking this week up to a pretty respectable 161!!

Followers
Last Week 7,648, which means that I lost 211 followers this week. LinkedIn has had a purge on hibernated accounts.
This Week - 7,684 which means only 36 more followers which is an increase, but I’m off my pace now.
I do not do anything to get more connections; I wait for people to follow me. In my mind, I am hoping they are following because they want to, rather than me just connecting randomly. What is your strategy?
Surely it is better to have people who follow you because they want to see your content?
533 Search appearances for the previous week! 372 searches this week which is a massive drop.

Hashtag Follows Last Week 153
Hashtag Follows This Week 156 Up three. Is that a record?

I was away for a few days and then came back to the UK early doors so I created this post to let people know that I was back. By starting with a question it got people looking and I kept it short and sweet and no image.
I also added a bit of humour regarding our ex Prime Minister who has not only be ex for a while, he has just resigned as a minister.
I also created this from my phone. The algorithm works differently from desktop to mobile created content. Why is that?
Here is the post.
What have I missed?
OMG. Four days no internet last breakfast on our mini cruise and I’m fully relaxed
Boom!
But what have I missed
Is Boris still the PM?
Share all your news
What have you launched?
What’s new?
Anything exciting?
Any disasters?
Funny moments?
Please bring me up to speed to save me trawling your content and let’s have a bit of fun
I’m back 🥳

SUNDAY 25 June 2,064 impressions
I came back from my break to an email from LinkedIn saying that they had got rid of hibernated accounts, and therefore my follower count had dropped. I’ve heard of this from others, so I guess it takes time for it to filter down.
I now have a settled account with followers who want to be my followers, and they are active.
Makes sense, eh?
So my post was to remind people that the numbers do not matter.
What do you think?

Have you had this message appear on your feed from LinkedIn yet?
Have you lost a load of followers?
I've just had a little break and this is what I found when I turned on my internet when I got back to Southampton.
7,851 down to 7,640 😱 I've lost 211 followers🤦♂️
Where did they go?
Am I bothered?
It's a shock, but when you realise that the followers are either hibernated or restricted, then it makes sense to get rid of these numbers from my follower count.
The number of followers you have can be a vanity metric.
But what you need to worry about is the engagement that you get.
My engagement is still good because my followers follow me because they like my content.
I'm not at all worried that the number has gone down, because they were not engaging with my content.
It is all about consistency.
I create content to help people to feel more confident using LinkedIn to grow and market their businesses and brands.
I'll keep doing this. If you want to see other content from me, please let me know.
Are you consistent?
What are you doing to write engaging posts?
Have you had this message?

MONDAY 26 June 1,144 impressions
Every Monday I create my Monday Nudge and a video. This helps people to come up with ideas for creating content and it also gives me an excuse to create a video. Creating videos is so important for our content strategy as it gives people the chance to really get to know you.
Do you create videos? I will be doing a live show this coming Tuesday where I will be talking with 3 video superstars who’ll be sharing their ideas to help you do more. You can join us here. Or check out my podcast page as this will become a podcast too.

Are you fed up with the lack of ideas for creating content?
Don't worry; it's a normal feeling! We all struggle with fresh and interesting ideas.
Help is here.....
Every Monday, I'll share FIVE new ideas to help you to feel confident to write your own content.
I've even written a book with 101 content ideas 😁 so I know what works and how to make it easy for you to be a creator.
My ideas this week are in full in the video, with a breakdown of what you can write about.
But if you are in a hurry, here are my topics for this week
💚 Exploring Pivotal Moments
💛 Well-being Week
💚 WWE and Niche Interests
💛 Social Media Day
💚 Marketing Ideas and Support
Good luck. Remember this.....
Only 1% of people on LinkedIn create content. If you get into a habit of creating content, you will see maxing results, and you only need to create something once a week.
By starting with one post a week, you will build your confidence and also have all week to think of the next topic.
The more you do, the easier it becomes. I promise!!
If you want a hand, then why not come along to my Free LinkedIn Drop in next Monday? The topic for the month is Creating Killer Content!!!
Book for free here - https://lnkd.in/eYX6GJEc
What are you going to write about this week? If you'd like me to review your post, then drop me a DM and I'll create a video telling you what I see and offer ideas for improvement.
Good luck.
You've got this.
What was your pivotal moment?

TUESDAY 27 June 1,082 impressions
I am doing a show all about creating video next Tuesday, and as I use Streamyard to stream this live, I need to create the post within that software as it shares it with my live feeds, including LinkedIn.
What this means is that it creates an event on LinkedIn, which is a space where I can invite people. It also gives me the analytics to see who is coming.
The problem with an event post is that it gets a very low reach, and it is difficult for people to comment.
I need to know who is coming, and I need a way for each of us to invite people along so the compromise is worth it.
If you want to see how to create an event on LinkedIn, watch my short video here.

Do you struggle with creating video content?
So you know that you need to do a video but are afraid to start?
OMG I am so excited. I cannot believe my luck. Look who I have joining me!
I have been creating videos for ages so it doesn't worry me when I create another video, but I know that so many people worry about what may happen.
Next Tuesday I will be chatting with three superstars who know a bit about videos and how they can help us to get more and better engagement on social media.
In alphabetical order...
Specialist marketer for Accountants & Bookkeepers with an impressive track record of helping people to market themselves. Amanda also helps people who are introverts so she knows about how people feel.
Not just your average accountant. Francesca has been sharing videos of her business journey for many years and is a leading light in the Accountants & Bookkeepers community. She is featured on many panels, webinars and live shows.
Video editing specialist Leigh knows a ton about video. How to make them, edit them and make them stand out. He turned a chat with me into a fantastic resource for Xero staff facing redundancy. Leigh is a video genius.
Join us next Tuesday 4 July at 12:30pm BST when I'll be asking this awesome panel the question you want to hear.
💚 How do I start?
💛 What equipment do I need?
💚 Do I have to add other elements to video?
💛 What is the best platform for video?
If you have other burning questions why not let us know beforehand and we can cover those areas too.
This live show is on LinkedIn but will also be on YouTube, Facebook and will be a Podcast Episode too
What's stopping you from doing video?

When you get asked onto the radio to talk about what you do, you have to promote it eh? So this is what I did, and I branded up an image in the colours of the radio station too. I also tagged in the presenter.
It all helps to get reach, but only if the presenter adds a comment.
I started off the post with a question that would share my excitement and draw in the reader. The show was great fun and even resulted in someone booking a call with me because what I said resonated with them.
How cool is that? Do you do self-promotion when things like this happen? We all love a good news story.

Do you have those WOW moments?
You know the ones, when you put the phone down and say WOW, I cannot believe what just happened?
This happened to me on Monday and I am so excited.
I am lucky enough to have been a guest on BBC Radio Devon before and have been asked back a couple of times but this time the topic that we'll be discussing is very close to my heart.
Today David FitzGerald will chat with me about Promoting your Business Online.
How cool is that?
A topic that I not only understand but something that I am genuinely passionate about. A topic that I want to help more people to get to love 💚 💛
And what's more, with the internet and smart speakers you do not need to live in Devon to listen in, or even call in with your questions!!
Just say to your smart speaker "Play BBC Radio Devon" BOOM!!!
And if you have a question then use this freephone number - 0808 100 1034 ☎️
I'll be live today from just after 11:00am
Wish me luck.
What questions would you ask if you called in?

I am working with a coach at the moment who is trying to get me to have a more structured approach. I need to let people know what it is that I actually do, and therefore over the last couple of days, I have been tweaking my website to make it easier for people to see what I do.
I created a little thumbnail of all of my services and added them, with links, to the home page of my website. This now makes it easier for people to see what I do. This ranges from a load fo free services to a 1:1 VIP service, so there is something for everybody.
I, therefore, shared this on my LinkedIn this week. But rather than saying what I do, I used this as a piece of content to get more people to do the same and let us know what they do.
We have to make things dead easy.
I see so many profiles where I haven’t got a clue what they do.
Don’t let that happen to you.

Do your customers and prospects know how you can help them?
Do you talk about all the amazing things that you do or the transformations that are made when you work with people?
Mine don't🤦♂️
Isn't it funny how we know what we do, but there is nowhere on our website or social media where people can see exactly what we do?
The first rule of marketing is to make sure that people know exactly what it is you do.
We need to make it EASY.
When I do a LinkedIn profile review sometimes I see a profile and cannot work out what people do. It is only until I have scrolled down to their work history that it starts to make sense.
I also review websites and have the same issue.
So with this in mind, I have created so simple graphics for my home page so that when you get there you know exactly how I can help you.
💚 Free Services and resources
💛 Easy to have a 'Pick My Brain' Zoom call
💚 Low-value offers
💛 One to One service
What tips do you have to make your marketing work perfectly?
Does mine make sense now?

FRIDAY 30 June 990 impressions
Here we go again. I do this every Friday—my gratitude post.
More thanks for a great week. Do you do Gratitude? If we look at the good, our brains cannot look at the bad. Think happy thoughts!! It really is that simple.
We can change how we think if we practice.
Just like we’ll get stronger if we go to the gym or lose weight if we cut out just one thing each day. It’s a compounding thing. The more you do, the more you benefit.
What are you grateful for?

Have you had a good week? Did any days that stand out?
Did you meet anyone or have a chat with a friend that made you feel grateful?
It's Gratitude Friday!!!
Every Friday I say thanks to people who have made the week awesome.
⭐️ 🥳 🙏 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐒. 🙏 🥳 ⭐️
By focusing on the good things we are training our brain to look for the good rather than focus on the negative (this is how we are wired so we will always have this battle)
What a truly incredible week back after my Holiday!! It's always tough after a break, but I haven't stopped.
It started on Monday when I went to a book launch with the lovely author Jane Corry. Her new book is out now!! Her previous books have been Sunday Times bestsellers, so there is some pressure. But I reckon she has another bestseller on her hands. Congratulations Jane and Thank you for the invite ❤️ 🙏 🥳
I was on BBC Radio Devon on Wednesday with David FitzGerald and had a lovely chat about using social media and even fielding calls from listeners!! Thank you for making my experience great fun and stress-free David. 🙏. See you again in September, what topic then?
Gotta give Tracy Irwin a shout-out for her new book. She has been helping me this week too. Get your copy now. Thank you Tracy. You have a hit on your hands!!! ❤️ 🙏 ⭐️
And finally last night I met the wonderful Stella Morrissey for real. She is doing a tour and I was one of the lucky people whom she wanted to meet. Stella is doing great things on LinkedIn and even had a post go viral and feature on a podcast as a post of the week.
I am actually going to go for a walk with her now and show her my lovely town and seafront. Thank you, Stella, you are everything that imagined. ❤️ 🙏
There's also a photo of my lovely wife Debbie on the back of our cruise ship last week. It was lovely to just spend time together without the internet. 💚 💛 🤗
Have a fantastic weekend and I look forward to hearing how your week has been!!

What are my thoughts on this week?
I was expecting a really busy and improved week numbers-wise on LinkedIn because I was here every day and engaging on the platform. But there seems to be much afoot with how LinkedIn is sharing content and reporting on it.
Hey ho. I’ll keep doing it and keep creating content.
Tomorrow is another day, and I will be here again, being creative and helping people to do more with this platform.
If you want a hand with creating content, I have my LinkedIn Drop-in Surgery on Monday, 3 July.
More info here https://15mins.day/surgery-july
Here is the breakdown.
Last week I had 18,678 Impressions and 464 engagements.

This week has not been as good as I was expecting. Having been away, I thought I’d be busier. I’m down to 17,085, which is 11% down on my impressions. But I have increased my engagements up 11% to 568.

Here are my six best-performing posts this week.

If you want a hand with your content, please get in touch, and sign up for my weekly email that gives five new content ideas each week. I call it the Monday Nudge. Sign up here https://15mins.day/nudge
