How was my week on LinkedIn? Here's what happened.

Every week I do a review of my content for the week.

I am a week behind. Sorry if you missed me.

NEW WEEK Commencing 11 March

The tide is turning on the LinkedIn Algorithm and we are all seeing loss on the reach of our posts. Engagement seems to be holding, but fewer people have eyes on our content, which makes it harder for traction.

Having said that though I have seen a bigger increase in the number of people connecting and following me, so the bottom line is still good.

So, as I said last week, stay consistent and don’t give up.

Views Last Week 1,794 viewers in the last 90 days. It said a Drop of 5% But I think that with 33 more viewers then that’s more eh? 162 people looked at my profile this week which up 10 from last week.

Views This Week 1,803 viewers in the last 90 days. It says an increase of only 3% But it seemed so much busier and more engaging. 20 more views in the week with 182 people looking at my profile.

Followers Last Week 6,995 - This Week - 7,065 I have added 70 extra followers this week which is another increase from the previous week. That’s encouraging eh? But I have had a few more eyes on my content!

Hashtag Follows Last Week 128

Hashtag Follows This Week 130 Up 2. Slow, but an increase nonetheless

SATURDAY 11 March 1,102 impressions

I did a Free Profile review for someone this week and in the video, I suggested that their font was too small because of a large image in their cover photo (banner) which meant that I couldn’t read it on my mobile device.

With around 70% of LinkedIn users doing so on their phones, this is an important tip.

I had a message back saying that although I make sense they will not make a change because they like their image.

I was confused. Why not listen to advice that is designed to help you get more people to understand what you do?

So I wrote a post specifically to demonstrate WHY we need to use large fonts and fewer images on our cover photo (banner).

Even if this person doesn’t see it, it shows the point perfectly and had a lot of traction.

Next time you are faced with someone doing this to you, why not write a post for them too? It works because you are focused. And probably other people need this advice too. I’ve also added this post to my featured section and have created a short URL to share with people when I see them doing the same!

15mins.day/mobile-banner

Here’s the post

Can you read what you do on your phone?

More importantly, would a prospect be able to see and understand what you do when they get to your Linkedin profile?

70% of LinkedIn users do LinkedIn on their mobile devices so all they can see is an area of 6.5cm x 1.5cm.

This is basically the size of your finger! 🤦‍♂️

💚 If your font is not large and clear then people will not be able to read it.

💛 If your banner is taken up with logos you'll have less space

💚 If the colours are confusing it will be hard to read

We all expect information to be easy and readily available. If it is not, we'll go elsewhere.

Your banner is not about great design and amazing graphics.

It is about how you can help me and if I cannot see immediately what you I'm gonna be confused.

If you want more people to connect with you, like you, trust you and buy from you then please review your banner.

Ask a friend to look at it on their mobile device and give you feedback. It's up to you if you do anything, but at least you've had a look.

I am more than happy to help, just give me a shout.

If your banner needs an overhaul then check out my FREE Banner Video in my free resources link in my contact details. Or why not jump on my LinkedIn Daily Habit Workshop next week?

When you run an event have you used the event feature when posting? It doesn't do so well as a post, but it does have some great features to help you manage and invite attendees.

With our Sidmouth LinkedIn Local coming I created this event this week. When it is set up you can invite people to join and then when they say that they are attending you are also able to message them (even though you may not be connected)

This feature is super useful if you have an outside link such as Eventbrite in my example for people to purchase tickets. I have messaged people to ask them to buy a ticket (they get a bacon bap!)

When did you last pop out to a local networking event?

Has lockdown kept you locked away for a bit longer than anticipated?

Maybe we can entice you back out again? We don't bite and the bacon baps are awesome!

What events do you prefer?

💚 Big ones with loads of people and plenty of speakers.

💛 Organised formal events with a sitdown meal

💚 Little intimate informal events

Our LinkedIn Local is an informal small event that you can pop into on your way to work. You can turn up anytime between 7:30 and 9:00 am and leave when you want.

We have a little formal bit in the middle where I share some LinkedIn tips and the lovely Odessa gives us some cool advice for creating content.

This month we are joined by the wonderful photographer Aisling ( Ash-ling ) Magill who'll be taking headshots for you. She's raising money for Reminiscence Learning so a donation is welcome.

If you'd like to come along, please say you're coming and be sure to book your ticket using the link so that you get your bacon bap.

See you soon.

Video day. No need to think about this one. Every Monday I drop a video. You do not get so much engagement as a normal post, but it does mean that people get to know the REAL YOU.

For example, this week I had 340 people view the video. Between them, they have watched 137 minutes. That’s more than 2 hours of me streaming into their devices.

No wonder when I meet people they are super familiar to me as they feel they know me. I guess they also feel that they trust me and therefore it’s easier for them to want to work with me.

Come on, when are you going to do some video?

What Content will build your personal brand❓ ⬇️

Do you want a hand with your content this week?

Do you draw a blank when you try to create a post on LinkedIn? 😱

Every Monday I create a video to help you to come up with some ideas to create content. ✅

Creating content is the best way to position yourself as an expert and educate and entertain your connections.

By sharing what you know or what you've done will help people to get to know you.

People buy from people who they know, like, and trust so if we are consistently showing up on Social Media then people will soon build up the point of reference for you.

It's more than just creating content. Consistency is king. I’m not saying to create content every day or multiple times a day. It’s all about being consistent.

These 5 ideas are also in my email that I call My Monday Nudge, let me know if you'd like me to add you to the list. I'll also share that email in my LinkedIn Newslatter this afternoon.

Here are my ideas for this week.

💚 Red Nose Day

💛 Sleep Awareness Week

💚 Write to Your Specific Customer

💛 Cheltenham Festival

💚 Mother's Day

What are you going to write about? If you have any other ideas for waht content works, please share it here, or let me know and I'll feature you in my next video 😁

Have a fantastic week.

Time for a poll I think. They often do well and when I am talking about commenting in my workshop it ties in brilliantly with what I am teaching.

For me, it’s the commenting on posts that really gets you noticed. People will interact with you and then maybe look at your profile.

If people look at your profile they will see what you do. (Only if your profile is optimised) See my video on my redundancy page on my website https://15mins.day/redundancy as this will give you 5 main areas to optimise your profile.

So for me, I comment more than I create content and give back to the community.

Come on, do some more comments to drive traffic to your profile.

Do you add a comment to a post on LinkedIn?

What's stopping you?

I'm running another LinkedIn Daily Habit Workshop this week and on Tuesday's we discuss the power of adding comments.

In fact, I call Commenting the "Currency of LinkedIn".

It is so powerful and really adds to the community. It also lets people know a little bit more about you.

💚 You can add value

💛 People will see 3 key parts of your profile

💚 You can interact

💛 You will get people looking at your profile

I spoke about Visiobibliophobia the other week. The anxiety of Social Media, so I understand why some of us back off.

But why are you not adding a comment?

If you love adding comments, why do you do it?

Let's help more people step out of the shadows and share their thoughts too.

What's holding you back?

Did you know that if you have not completed your profile correctly that you could end up in LinkedIn Jail?

Here’s what i know

Have you heard of LinkedIn Jail?

I'm not sure if it's the real name, but basically, if you flout the LinkedIn Terms and Conditions, then LinkedIn may temporarily suspend your account.

❌ You go to jail

❌ Do not pass go

❌ Do not collect £200

I do not want you to be suspended or even kicked off this incredible platform so I've written this post so that I can refer back to it when I speak to people.

One of the most common terms that I see flouted is the incorrect use of the Name Fields. People add their qualifications or even their job title. This is not allowed

When you sign up you put in Ashley as your first name and Leeds as your surname. Unless you are actually called LinkedIn Superstar then you should not have this in your name field.

It doesn't bother me. But because I know this rule, I'd be doing a disservice by not mentioning it eh?

And here are the terms from the LinkedIn User Agreement.

𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟴.𝟭.𝟯

"You agree that you will use your real name on your profile."

Source: https://15mins.day/agree

𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀

"When registering on our site, LinkedIn does not allow members to use pseudonyms, fake names, business names, associations, groups, email addresses, or special characters that do not reflect your real or preferred professional name."

Source: https://15mins.day/names

I've mentioned this to people in the past and they said that a LinkedIn Trainer told them to do this 🤦‍♂️

Please have a look and make sure that you have no reason for LinkedIn to suspend you. I love having you here.

If you are not sure, please get in touch ❤️

I went to a cracking event this week so here’ my review. If you go to events why not do the same, but try not to tag everyone. It looks messy and harms your reach.

How can we help our women in business friends?

What do you know about Inclusion, Equity or being a woman in business today?

I knew a bit, but now I know a lot more thanks to the wonderful Sarah Jepson and her Six Degrees - a female only community.

I attended the Biggest Event Yet organised by Sarah and loved the whole vibe.

I met with some great women, caught up with some lovely friends and also heard some great stories and ideas to encourage and inspire us all.

What Sarah and her chums are doing is fantastic and I cannot wait to have a more in-depth chat with her on my podcast.......

I also loved meeting and hearing Alexis Bowater OBE when she had the mic in the Q&A session at the end.

Just a real shame that I had to dash out early as I had to be back in Sidmouth to present my Live LinkedIn Show. So sorry Sarah🤦‍♂️

So what more can we do you help and inspire women in business?

What Ideas do you have?

FRIDAY 17 March 1,563 impressions

It’s Friday. SO it’s the gratitude post!!

What are YOUR highlights for this week? How did it go?

⭐️ 🥳 🙏 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐒. 🙏 🥳 ⭐️

In case you don't know, Each Friday I share my gratitude and thanks to all the fantastic people in my network who have lifted me up over the last week.

What a week it has been.

First up I have to scream excitedly for Caroline Hobden for booking me to speak at this year's Accountex. This is a big deal. If you don't know. Accountex is the BIGGEST show for Accountants & Bookkeepers in Europe and attracts over 10,000 people from this profession to the Excel Centre.

I'll be on stage to talk about the power of LinkedIn! Thank you, Caroline - 🙏 🥳

Leigh Stallard has been a superhero this week. With news of massive redundancies from Xero Leigh is running around creating videos to help these people in their quest to find something new.

We had a session together where I shared some top tips about what to do to optimise your LinkedIn Profile. If you know anyone facing redundancy please point them to Leigh or my website (link below)

Thank you for involving me Leigh, so happy to help. 🙏🥳 🤗

Thank you, Katherine Dyer, our little chat whilst enjoying the beauty of Sidmouth Seafront was refreshing and helped me to put things into perspective. Being a business owner is a lonely place, so when you can call on a friend it's less lonely. Thank you Kathryn ❤️ 🙏

Sarah Jepson taught me something this week with her Six Degrees Big Event in Exeter. This amazing woman is empowering women and giving them a place to grow and develop. Thank you, Sarah and all your wonderful women. Keep it up. 🙏

Finally, big thanks to my wonderful 29th Cohort who are on my LinkedIn Daily Habit Workshop this week. We've had so much fun and they really have challenged me with all their questions. Such an amazing group of students who are all collaborating to ensure that we Love LinkedIn. Thank you guys, see you at 3:15. Have you done your homework? 🙏💚 💛 😁

There have also been some other wonderful people, you know who you are ❤️

Who has made your week special? What are you grateful for?

Come on, share that love ❤️

What are my thoughts on this week?

Much better engagement and lovely comments. You get out what you put in.

This was a great week eh? Some good posts and better engagement. It’s all about consistency and I think I have been commenting a bit more. The algorithm is showing us less in our feed so we need to go out a little bit more and put in a bit little bit more effort to make it work for us.

Here is the breakdown.

Last week I had 13,450 impressions and 541 engagements

This week it is 18,387 impressions and 672 engagements

Don’t give up. Make more comments and interact more with people and this way more people will start to see what you are doing.

Shout if you want a hand or you get stuck

Here are my best 5 posts this week. More photo’s this week

If you want a hand with your content please get in touch, and sign up for my weekly email that gives 5 new content ideas each week. I call it the Monday Nudge or why not check out my content book?
