How Should I Create Content for my LinkedIn Profile

NEW WEEK Commencing 8 April
Every week I review my content and share with you.
This last week was not as good a week on LinkedIn this week as we have been doing. It is holiday time in the UK with Easter at the end of the week so fewer people on the platform I guess. I’ve started posting on an Accounting Group that has nearly 18,000 members.
Views Last Week 1,908 viewers in the last 90 days. Down a bit with only 178 people looking at my profile in the last week. The graph says I’m 10% down.

Views This Week 1,891 viewers in the last 90 days. Only slightly short on views as I had 172 people looking at my profile in the last week that’s only down 6 people!. The graph says I’m 14% down.

Followers Last Week 7,236
This Week - 7,275I have added another 39 which is down a bit on last week’s performance
536 Search appearances this week! 397 this week! The seaside town where I live was busier this week so I’m guessing that more people were off work this past week. Let’s see what this week brings.

I had a chat with a lady called Kayleigh in the week and we talked about the brilliant song by Marillion. I couldn’t find the album at the time, but it made for a great post with loads of engagement as so many people remember or have vinyl records.
Think about the nostalgia angle, what could you talk about?

Do you still have and play Vinyl Records?
I've got a load, but sadly do not play them. Apparently, they are making a comeback.
Should I keep them?
I was having a natter with a friend the other day and we got talking about Marillion. I said that I had the album, but couldn't find it at the time. Here it is now.
Don't you find those old albums bring back incredible memories?
I guess that's why I love music so much. ❤️
My memory of this album is the classic track Kayleigh, but the rest of the album is brilliant and introduced me to this amazing band. I'm actually listening to Fugazi as I write this.
It's on quiet because everyone else is asleep 😁. But it does deserve to be loud don't you think?
Do you still play your old albums or are they in the loft awaiting the space, time, and inertia to do something with them?
I listen to all my music on streaming services. It's so convenient. Remember when the CD first arrived?
Should I get a decent record player and get back into vinyl?
Come on, share your favourite album stories. And photos!!
Who's got the best Album story?

It was Easter so I couldn’t leave it, could I? I chose chocolate for my topic today. I started off with a question and had an image that invited curiosity! I also encouraged people to add their photos too.
Do you LOVE the crack? ❤️
You know that sound of breaking into a hollow chocolate egg for the first time.
Nothing better eh? So satisfying 🥳 But what's your favourite?
With so many different eggs do you have a favourite? For us Brits is it Cadbury or Galaxy?
This is a haul that I noticed the Easter Bunny has dropped off at our home.
I'm still hunting for the Lindor, but I must admit I am partial to the Mateaser Bunnies and who doesn't love a Cadbury Mini Egg?
When our girls were younger they had so many eggs, I want to see your photos of your Egg Piles.
Have a fantastic Easter today, have fun and enjoy your chocolate.
But more importantly, what is your favourite easter egg?

Previous Week
I had 1,936 impressions, 24 Reactions, 23 comments, and 0 Reposts. This also means a lot more views. This week it was 567 views watched by 507 viewers with 165 minutes viewed. Probably because less people watched due to the Easter breaks.
This Week was a big drop on last week. I only had 1,061 impressions, 24 Reactions, 23 comments, and 0 Reposts. This also means a lot fewer views. This week it was 357 views down by 200!!! watched by 319 viewers with 105 minutes viewed down a whole hour!!

I’m running a LIVE show next Friday with the lovely Nadin so I wanted to get some news out about it. Hence the Event Post.
The event post gives us a chance to actually invite people along too.
It’s a very poorly performing post so we need to go back to the post and invite some more people to join us. I’ll also be including this in my Monday Nudge. This is my weekly newsletter. Sign up here if you want ideas each week. 15mins.day/nudge

Do you use any AI in your working day?
Are you wondering what all the fuss is about?
Are you a purist who doesn't want to use this new-fangled thing?
Is this just a passing fad?
Don't worry I feel the same at times which is why we are going to chat about this hot topic on Friday 21 April.
I will be joined by Nadin Thomson who is embracing and helping people to get to grips with this brave new world.
In her day-to-day business, she's an SEO expert but she's embracing ChatGPT to help her and her clients.
So why not come on for a special show to help me and you too?
Come and join us live next Friday that 21 April at Midday BST
If you have any questions feel free to add them here or come along LIVE and we'll answer them and maybe even show you some live tricks and tips that you can use to make AI work for you too.

This was from a post that I saw in the week and the first few lines of my post today were the basis of my comment on the original poster. When you spend a bit of time commenting on other posts you pick up all kinds of ideas and inspiration.
My thinking with this post is to encourage more people to create content but to start from comments.
What do you think?
Here’s that post.
Do you lack the confidence to create a post on LinkedIn?
Do you wish that you had the courage to just go for it?
Do you want to be able to post whatever you fancy writing about and feel proud that you have another post out there for people to read?
Writing content is just like exercise.
Bear with me on this.
If you start going to the gym you'll find it hard at first, but over time you'll start to look forward to the sessions. You'll be able to take the exercises in your stride.
Writing is the same.
The more you do the easier it becomes.
I'm so much more confident today than when I wasn't creating regular content. Regular writing hasn't just given me the confidence to write.
It has given me more confidence in everything that I do.
Heck, it's even given me the confidence to write a book.
I never imagined that I'd be writing something like this. To see your book appearing in other people's posts online is just brilliant and one thing I'll never tire of.
I am now I'm also a public speaker. Never ever in a million years did I think I'd have the courage or confidence to stand up in front of people?
Writing content does give you confidence!!
Only 1% of people on LinkedIn are actually creating regular content so it won't take much for you to be better than 99% of people on here!
What's stopping you from creating content?
Do you have any tips to share?

I met our local MP today and therefore this post was a definite. I knew that I wanted to feature him in a post so I asked if he minded a selfie and I explained why I wanted it. Simon was very kind and allowed me to do this. I guess he gets great publicity so why not. Was I worried about asking him? YES, of course. But in this day and age of social media, he is well aware and he could say no.
This gave me a great start for some content and I can use this image in the future too.
When you are out and about think of what you can use for your future content. This reminds me, I took a photo of a couple of vans recently with sign writing on them. This is a great example of what I talk about with LinkedIn background photos.
Watch this space…..

What do you do at Breakfast time?
I bet it's not every day that you have breakfast with your local MP eh?
This was a first for me and extremely insightful it was too.
Do you roll your sleeves up and get involved?
As a member of the local Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce, I am getting more involved in helping the town to be more inclusive for the local business community and recently I have been voted onto the committee.
It's great to get more involved and this came to a head yesterday when our local MP, Simon Jupp came along to share what's happening locally and nationally.
I'm not sure if he is the youngest MP but it was refreshing to see someone who is all about the way of life here in Devon and as a local lad you know he's got our interests at heart.
It was great to hear his insights and have a natter with him, a really good guy and I look forward to meeting him again and maybe even having him join me on my LinkedIn Live show one day 😁
Guess who's been voted the person to look after the LinkedIn account then? So It would be remiss of me to not include the Sidmouth Chamber Of Commerce page eh?
It's a work in progress, but what sort of things should we include on the page do you think? Apart from photos of our amazing breakfast at 14 Miles East!!
Who have you met recently who changed your opinions and views?
What's your best breakfast photo?

Every Friday I create my gratitude post and this week it was very well received!
What are you grateful for?

How was your week? What are you Grateful for?
I share my gratitude post every Friday and the effects are fantastic. I did it for me at first, but people love to see these positive posts and have even started doing similar.
How cool is that eh Steve Ware? (Wellbeing superstar)
⭐️ 🥳 🙏 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐒. 🙏 🥳 ⭐️
Research has shown that consciously practising gratitude can reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.
Studies have found that a single act of thoughtful gratitude produces an immediate 10% increase in happiness and a 35% reduction in depressive symptoms.
What are YOUR highlights for this week?
I've been super busy, in just four days!!
I have now eventually got an accountant.... Introducing Nadia Gibbs MICB who has jumped in to help me and get me set up. Another weight off my mind and perfect for starting my 3rd year in business. Thank you, Nadia, 🙏
I met an MP at breakfast this week. Thanks to Sidmouth Chamber Of Commerce and Simon Jupp who's not on LinkedIn. YET 😂
I had a book land on my doormat this week from the super lovely Andy Mullaney. It's a huge read and won't fit on my iPhone, 😂 but I'll be starting it once I've finished my James Patterson. Didn't Anyone Ever Tell You is the title!! Thank you Andy 🙏
I am on a panel with Jonathan Stobart at Bright talking about LinkedIn, but the other panellists are two of the coolest accountants on LinkedIn. Alphabetical order. Three Cheers for Francesca Tricarico FMAAT and Samantha Mitcham FMAAT. This is going to be so much fun and I cannot wait to be part of this epic webinar. (link in Comments). Thank you, Jonathan 🙏
Did you see the Shamrock? Guess where my next speaking gig is going to be? I'm off to Dublin to speak at the Profit Pro conference with Des O'Neill. How cool is that? Thank you to Des and to Alma Carley for making it happen! 🙏. Does that mean I'll get a real Guinness?
And finally. I had a phone call yesterday from the super busy Chris Downing for Sage. He wanted to pop in on his way past my house to have a coffee and give me some merch.
We had a great chat about software, the industry and why some Accountants & Bookkeepers are flying. I did a swap and gave Chris a copy of my book 101 Ideas for LinkedIn - Content Made Easy and we had Deb's Millionaires Shortbread. What a great meeting! Thank you, Chris. 🙏
WOW. Now I need a lie-down.
What have you been up to?
Sharing your great news will make you feel awesome and if you give someone some kudos or a shout they will be happier too!!
Go on, give it a try.

What are my thoughts on this week?
Isn’t it interesting that even though I have had a load more impressions (people seeing my content) the engagement is actually down by a considerable margin? I don't know why. All I know is that I will remain consistent and keep creating content.
And that’s what we need to do. It’s no good chasing numbers or looking for vanity metrics. Get regular and have a routine that you can maintain. So if you can only commit to one post a week, that is brilliant.
Only 1% of people on LinkedIn create content, so just one post a week takes you from the 99% to the upper echelons!!
Here is the breakdown.
Last week I had 26,224 impressions and 1,033 engagements
This week it is 31,877 impressions and only 668 engagements

This week my impressions have increased by over 5,000 but the graph says it’s down by 4%.
And the engagement has been good this week, but compared to last week it’s taken a hit. I did talk about 2 years in business last week which really inflated the numbers. Easter holidays have kept some people off the platform so I am expecting higher numbers this coming week. As long as I stay consistent…..

Here are my best 5 posts this week.

My engagement in the Accounting Community Group is still good. You can find this community here. https://www.linkedin.com/groups/14195642/
