How does your content perform on LinkedIn?

NEW WEEK Commencing 19 November

Every week I do a review of the Content that I create on LinkedIn this gives me a chance to look at everything that I've written and also understand how it is performing a people resonate with it and what people think.

I'm not just counting impressions I'm also looking at the engagement and the reaction that I'm getting from people who are commenting and engaging with my content. If you don't do this you can't improve, you can't try new things and you can’t understand where you're going right or wrong.

So every Saturday morning I spend a good couple of hours checking over everything that I've done and making comments so that when I look back I can see what works and what doesn't. This week has been a little different because the previous week I launched my book and there was a huge amount of Engagement in everything that I did last week. That has died down somewhat this week but I am noticing that people are still interested and because of the book this is creating new content from other content providers who are sharing photos of my book. Now that is just weird for me to see. But lovely.

Views Last Week 1,530 up by a massive 37%

Views This Week the graph says 1,592up but a 17% drop

I have actually had 209 people look at my profile this week, and a load of connection requests!

Hashtag Follows Last Week 64 up the biggest increase of 7 more

Hashtag Follows This Week 71 Another 7 more

Followers Last Week 6,095 - This Week - 6,165 a 70-count increase this week.

My lovely friend Aisling Magill took a load of photos for me when I first started. As a gift for helping her through the lockdown. That’s a long story, but suffice to say my business started on a shoestring and although I know many photographers, I knew there could only be one photographer for my big event.

Here’s a post about Aisling who took all the photos for my book launch on 16 November 2022.

How do you choose who to hire when you know so many photographers?

I'm blessed to know so many lovely photographers, but who should I choose?

You choose the one who

❤️ You know, like and trust

❤️ Takes awesome photos

❤️ Has helped you in the past

❤️ You have a great relationship with

These are some of the reasons why I chose the wonderful Aisling ( Ash-ling ) Magill to record my book launch this Wednesday.

I met Aisling during the lockdown when were brought together thanks to the inspiring Vic Williams.

Every day during lockdown we did zoom and we did breakout rooms where we would chat with different small groups and on Fridays, I would come up with something fun.

At Christmas, in 2020 I received a card from Aisling saying how I had helped her through lockdown and that she'd like to offer a free photo shoot.

Neither of us knew then that I would be starting my own business in April 2021.

When I needed some photos for my website Aisling came over and we had a fun time taking photos and working on my new website.

Running a new business I have been very careful with funds, but for my book launch I wanted to capture the event and for me there was only one person.

I even told her to invoice me before the event and paid it straight away.

If you want awesome photos and you want to work with someone lovely then you better check out Aisling.

Do you have any similar stories where you've had to choose someone when you know so many suitors?

And if you are wondering who took this great photo, then that'll be my lovely wife Debbie!!

SUNDAY 20 November 3,407 impressions

It was the light switch on in Sidmouth and we were lucky enough to be asked to provide the music for the event which was so much fun, so why wouldn’t I share the Christmas spirit in my post on Sunday? When you do things like this people want to know, they are interested and you can see this with the comments that I had. I was still getting comments a week later!

When does Christmas start for you?

For me, it's the Big Switch on of the Lights here in Sidmouth.

This was my view last night!

We must have had nearly 1,000 people filling the Market Square and we had the honour of playing Christmas songs to entertain the people.

Organised by the Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce with the Chair of the Council on hand to officiate we had an absolute blast.

And I made our Christmas Cake too!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....

When do you feel Christmassy?

We have our LinkedIn Local again this week, so I thought that we’d better get it out there for the few stragglers. The event post allows us to invite people along without too much effort and also a place for people to come and say hi if they are planning to come along.

What are your favourite REAL LIFE networking events?

Are you getting out more nowadays?

There are quite a few different events we can sign up for, right?

✅ Formal - have to bring Leads

✅ Informal, just a chat with local business owners like you

✅ Themed - All the same industry

✅ Organised with a Speakers

✅ Morning with breakfast finished before work starts

✅ Evening so that you can relax with a beer

✅ Event with so much else going on

I'm sure I missed a few, so please drop those suggestions.

I love the FUN element of meeting people. The informality. if you like.

I am not a fan of structure and if people make an effort to come along, I guess they want to talk to as many people as possible in an environment without pressure or time constraints.

This is why the Sidmouth LinkedIn Local is an informal event.

This is why we don't have a speaker.

Just a space to chat, have a bacon bap (veggie options) and a coffee.

We add some value because I have the delightful Odessa Sherreard who shares some content writing tips and I share a few LinkedIn tips too.

We have a few places left for this coming Thursday if you want to check us out.

I cannot promise you a load of leads, or a long interesting or motivational talk, but I can promise you lovely local people, bacon baps and plenty of tea and coffee.

Oh, a few smiles too. 😁

What local networking events do you recommend?

Because I was on the local radio station today I thought it worthy of sharing the good news. People love good news. And people love celebrating good news too. But when you share good news there are different ways to deliver it.

Do you just shout it from the rooftops, or do you make it more personal?

Because I was a bit nervous at the thought of being on the radio I guess many other people would be too. So I started with the question about what makes you nervous then asked for advice.

We all have our fears so people will be keen to share theirs and experts who know stuff will add their advice.

It’s how we work in real life, so why not online. All I have done is made it easy for people to interact with my content.

What makes your palms sweat?

Sharing that I am on a live radio chat show this morning is one of those things.

I had a call from BBC Radio Deven recently asking if I'd like to be a guest on the morning chat show with David Fitzgerald.

What do you think I said?

You know me, I love talking and to be on the radio is always fun as this was a dream of mine when I was still at school.

I'm a bit nervous, but we need to be pushed out of our comfort zone to help us grow!

We'll be talking about a couple of topics during the hour one of which is close to my heart. It's nothing to do with what I do as a job, so no LinkedIn or social media., but it should be a great show.

Wish me luck and if you have any tips from when you've been on the Radio or TV that could be useful.

So, go on then, what makes your palms sweat?

THURSDAY 24 November 2,326 impressions

I wanted to share our LinkedIn Local today and as I am collaborating with my friend I thought that would be a different angle to get the message across.

So rather than shouting about the event, I posed a question about working with a business buddy.

Here’s the post

Who is your business buddy?

Do you work or collaborate with someone on a regular basis?

As a small business owner, it's important to have someone you can just shoot the breeze with, and have a laugh.

For me, it's the lovely Odessa Sherreard and today we co-host the LinkedIn Local Sidmouth.

We chat regularly and help each other with all the rubbish that happens in our businesses.

I'm very lucky as I also have many other special people whom I spend time with to get through the ups and downs of running a business on your own.

That's also why love the 1% Club with John Lamerton as we have over 100 small business owners who also share loads of help and support.

Do you belong to a collaborative club?

And that's another reason for the LinkedIn Local.

This is another fun real-life event where local business owners can come together in a relaxed atmosphere and just catch up and have a natter.

I cannot wait to catch up with everyone shortly.

It's tough enough running a business, why make it harder by staying in your office on your own?

Who's your business buddy and how do you work together?

It's Friday, so here's the Gratitude Post!

Wanna share the love today? ❤️ What are YOUR highlights for this week?

Can you believe we are here already?

⭐️ 🥳 🙏 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐒. 🙏 🥳 ⭐️

Who has made your week special?

Gratitude is important.

Ask Steve Ware.

This is why I am sharing my gratitude and thanks to all the fantastic people in my network every Friday.

I love the special people who have lifted me over the last week.

In no particular order here are the people who have been lovely this week.

First off are all the lovely people who came to the Sidmouth LinkedIn Local. Too many to mention. ❤️

Also to Simon and Daisy for hosting us at The Balfour Arms and providing kick-ass bacon baps. Who knew that brioche buns would be so jolly wonderful at breakfast? 🙏 Thank you.

Sarah Aires for taking the photo's again - You do a great job mixing business and pleasure. Thank you, Sarah 🙏

Mandy Ward for her lovely book review for 101 Ideas for LinkedIn - Content Made Easy. Random and totally fantastic. What a lovely human being you are. ❤️. Thank you, Mandy 🙏

Matt West for inviting me to his Networking Event yesterday. What a lovely group of people, many of whom were new to me.

Great to finally meet The Lord himself, John Harvey and the well-connected Rob Nicholls and also catch up with some old faces too.

Thank you, Matt, for a great event 🙏

Finally the lovely Michelle Reshef for joining me again on my live show to talk so passionately about Dementia and how we can prevent it.

If we remind ourselves of the good points in life it makes the bad points not so bad!

Do you practice gratitude?

Who are your heroes this week or what are you grateful for?

Come on, let's share the love ❤️
