Best Practices for LinkedIn by Creating Engaging LinkedIn content. Analysis of my LinkedIn Content

NEW WEEK Commencing 12 August

My Weekly Blog: What Do I Do with Content Each Week?

On a Saturday morning, I review the content from my activity on LinkedIn to create this blog. It’s to help me see what works and what doesn’t and gets me to really think about my content. It also serves as an idea for you to come up with your own ideas following my thought processes.

I also share all my analytics so that you can understand what can be achieved with your content.

This week for example, with 597 engagements, it shows that people like what I do and these are people that I am interacting with. 284 of those are comments. These are people who have taken the time to write a comment on my content. Admittedly half of those comments are my replies, but looking at these numbers I have personally interacted well over 100 times.

That’s a real lot of being in front of people and being front of mind.

What can you do to make your content comment-worthy?

My engagement this week has dropped from last week as I haven’t added so much value. I’ll be working on this for this week. I’ve already started with a Document post.

Views; Previous Week 2,140 people viewed my profile in the last 90 days. Only down 1% this week, so I need to be more active next week eh?

Views This Week Numbers are dropping a bit because 90 days or so ago I had a big peak. 1,932 people have viewed my profile in the last 90 days. Down another 1% this week, with 174 people viewing this week. That’s still a brilliant 24 people every day!!

I need to make sure that my Profile changes a bit so that there is more for people to see!

Followers

In the previous Week

7,918 which was another increase of 44 followers.

Followers This Week - 8,021 BOOM! I've hit the 8K marker!! When I started my new business I was less than 3,000. This week the increase is a massive 103 people!!! Now that is great news.

These are people who have chosen to follow me, rather than me reaching out. This means a much better relationship because they want to follow me, rather than feeling pressurised because I have sent a connection request.

Search Appearances

393 Search appearances for the previous week! 517 searches this week, so increasing by a bigger margin than last week. People are looking for me!

Hashtag Follows Last Week 167

Hashtag Follows This Week 168 up 1 again! It is certainly consistent eh?

SATURDAY 12 August 2,166 impressions

On Saturday, I woke up shattered so I shared my feelings of exhaustion, prompting a discussion about those days when we wake up feeling tired and just need a break. I started the post by asking the question if you ever wake up feeling shattered and talked about the value of embracing a lazy day without any guilt. This post seemed to resonate and was still getting engagement late into the week.

Do you wake up tired or are you feeling shattered today?

Do you feel guilty for doing nothing or do you still have to do everything because you do not want those pangs of guilt?

I've just had the busiest week ever. 😱. So today I am going to do NOTHING.

And I am not going to feel guilty.

It was Folk Week in Sidmouth so apart from going out every afternoon and evening to see live music and street performances I have also been performing too.

Folk Week for me is like Christmas. It's my favourite time of the year and I haven't stopped. This was me last night with Will Vine, you cannot quite see the banner, but we are Vine & Dandy!

Guess who I am 😂

I also have a confession. I say nothing, but I do have another gig this evening with our band in Exeter.

So doing nothing today will mean that I have the energy to give it my all and make the gig seem like the first one in a while.

What do you do when you've just had a busy week?

What do you call doing nothing?

Whatever you do today, have fun and take a little time for you.

SUNDAY 13 August 2,107 impressions

Continuing the theme of efficient work habits, I used Sunday's post to dive into the importance of having the right tools for the job. Because I’d been to the Landrover Experience I wanted to highlight my friend who runs the business. To do this I shared a montage of photos featuring me with my Land Rover and friends, sparking a conversation about how having the proper tools can make tasks easier and more enjoyable.

You could use this idea for work-related tools and services that you offer!

Have you got the right tool for the job?

We procrastinate about spending money to get the right equipment, but when you have the right tool, you can do the job quickly, easily and safely.

I found all this out at the Landrover Experience when I drove the new Landrover Defender.

These vehicles can go anywhere. And I mean ANYWHERE.

Designed to replace the original Defender that was first launched in 1948, it has big shoes to fill.

But OMG you just hold the steering wheel, tickle the accelerator and this baby just goes. Up steep banks, rocks and through water, all with ease.

You can see the still from a video we took of me on TWO wheels 🤦‍♂️ 🤮. But the New Defender took it in its stride.

Going downhill was even more impressive using the auto hill decent system it just gets you down managing the braking all for you.

The Defender was the right tool for the job!!

Thank you Paul Siely for the invite. We had a tremendous day and I highly recommend your venue to anyone looking for something a bit different. Perfectly safe and a mind-blowing experience.

BOOM!!!

Have you got the right tool for the job in hand?

The right tool is my Macbook, what about your favourite tool?

MONDAY 14 August 1,730 impressions

Mondays are video days for me, and this week, I decided to add a splash of creativity by filming an introduction video while sliding down a theme park slide. I injected a bit of humour by being different and asking whether content ideas come to mind while on a slide.

Following a big video post from the week before was always going to be difficult.

What other ideas do you suggest?

Struggle for Ideas? Do you think of content when you are on a slide?

Don't worry, I do, so you can use my ideas to help write your own content this week.

We went to the World of Country Life and had so much fun, I even tried recording my weekly video on the slide with my family chasing me!

As I maintain, content is everywhere and if you watch the video you'll get more ideas of what content you can create.

Get these benefits when you start creating content

💚 Ensures that people see you as a thought leader

💛 Creating content gets you noticed.

💚 Gives you a voice

What's stopping you?

If you get stuck, just give me a shout.

I want you to love LinkedIn and use it to drive clients to your business.

Good luck with your content and let me know how you get on.

What will you write about today?

Previous Week

I had 2,643 impressions massive increase of 173%. 46 reactions, 73 comments this is a significant increase. I should dress up more eh?

Views of this video were up a massive amount too, up to 1,071, almost 3X the views!! Watched by three times more people at 979, and a massive 301 minutes viewed. That is FIVE HOURS. How do I follow that?

This Week

I had a big number to compete with last week, but 1,730 impressions is still a good effort, but it was down with fewer reactions too as just 37 reactions, and 31 comments is more than half the number from last week. I really should watch what I wear.

Views of this video are down a massive amount too, to 644, almost half the views!! Watched by 40% fewer people at 580, and 100 minutes less viewed at 209 minutes viewed. I knew that last week was a bumper issue. I’ll be at the beach when I record this week's edition.

TUESDAY 15 August 2,692 impressions

I had a Marketing Workshop the next day so I wanted to get people thinking about marketing. I also used the tools of the poll to see who voted Marketing as their problem and sent them a message inviting them to my workshop. It was a free drop in so I wasn’t worried about asking as I was adding value.

I wanted to find out what people think is the most stressful aspect of running a business. I acknowledged that entrepreneurs often venture into business to focus on their passions, not administrative tasks like sales and marketing. The poll sparked conversations and gave me some excuse to send messages to people too.

When was the last time you created a poll?

Did you set your small business up so that you could do Marketing? 🥳

Or did you set it up so that you could work out how to do bookkeeping?

Or maybe you just love managing emails? 🤦‍♂️

When we set up our small businesses we are great at doing "Our Thing" but don't realise that there are a million other tasks and jobs that we have to master too.

Jobs like these for example

💚 Legal and Regulatory Compliance

💛 Financial Management

💚 Planning and Strategy

💛 Human Resources

💚 Bookkeeping

💛 Marketing

💚 Sales

Some of these jobs we can outsource, but as cash-strapped start-ups we try and muddle along on our own.

I've outsourced my bookkeeping and accounts and this has changed my game.

What jobs can you do yourself and what jobs do you just hate and wish you didn't have to do?

If you know of anyone who can do this for us, give them a shout-out! ⭐️

I had my Marketing Workshop today so using this post I could advertise it one last time.

I explored marketing queries and curated an image on Canva with the intriguing question, "Marketing - What do you want to know?" I then added the link to the session today to get a fewlast-minutee people turning up. The event was a great success and we’ll be running another on on 18 September. Here’s the link https://15mins.day/events. It’s a freedrop-inn session.

THURSDAY 10 August 1,977 impressions

Podcasts are always a great topic and as I’ve been a guest I wanted to promote this from the host. But Ialsos want people to know that I also have a podcast! I created a Canva image featuring various podcast graphics and asked the simple question, "What's yourfavouritee podcast?" By tagging podcast creators and inviting them to share their work, I generated substantial engagement and got people to share and tag other people too.

By asking people to tag and share you are bringing in new people to your audience.

Do you listen to many podcasts?

Do you have any favourites, or is it just one or two when you have time?

I consume loads and love all of them.

I walk every day so I have plenty of time to listen and I get loads of great information from the podcasts that I listen to. I share this with my clients and use it for personal development too.

I found another new one this week, thanks to Philippa Haynes and MARK LEE FCA with their ASS podcast! 😁 and it got me wondering how many I actually listen to and what others I am missing.

Who do you love?

Can you recommend some new ones for me please?

I love Amy Rowlinson's "Focus on Why" because it gives me a lift and she has awesome guests.

The best one for me though is LinkedInformed by the amazing Mark Williams now has over 400 episodes of great LinkedIn content in his brilliant no-holds-barred style. Thank you Mark.

I have just been featured on the specialised accountant's podcast with Matt Banker. We talk LinkedIn obviously. I love being a guest, so if you host a podcast and you want a lively guy in a yellow T-Shirt, please get in touch.

I also host my own podcast, this week my guests are Brigitte Bojkowszky, Ph.D. and Tushir Patel , I love asking questions and being curious (sounds better than nosey eh?) 😂

If you would like to be on my podcast, please let me know.

So come on then, what are the podcasts that you love listening to?

FRIDAY 11 August 641 impressions

As the week concluded, I shared my customary gratitude post. Reflecting on recent experiences, I posed the question, "What are you grateful for?" I have not been getting the numbers that I used to get for thisFriday'sy post.

I need to do more exciting things!! And tag a few more people for better reasons.

What are you Grateful For? It's Friday so I want to know..

What has made your week? Or WHO has made your week better than last week?

By focusing on our gratitude, we feel better, feel happier, and see the good in the world.

Every Friday I like to reflect on the week and share my gratitude and I'd love you to think about your week too.

Come on, what's been good?

⭐️ 🥳 🙏 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐒. 🙏 🥳 ⭐️

Who are you going to thank?

I've had man-flu this week, so thanks to Debs for my tissues, throat sweets and ibuprofen, I'm feeling better today, but my throat is still quite sore. Too many gigs with my bands🤦‍♂️. You blokes know just how bad man-flu is eh? Thank you Debs ❤️ 🙏

Big shout out to all the lovely people who joined Nicky Mee and me on Wednesday for our Marketing Q&A. Nicky is a whirling dervish when it comes to Marketing Ideas. Our zoom was busy and we had loads of awesome questions and many happy people. We'll be doing this again!!! Thank you Nicky ❤️ 🙏

We had a 3rd Birthday in our house this weekend too and went to the lovely World of Country Life in Exmouth with the family. Such a lovely little family day out. We fed goats, saw a bird of prey display and had loads of fun chasing our little grandson around. Thank you everyone at this great park. 🙏 ❤️ ⭐️

Yesterday I had a lovely chat with the super-connector and all round good guy, Rob Brown, talking about all the great people in the Accounting & Bookkeeping space, and his awesome Accounting Influencers group he also gave me some great advice on my Accounting Community. Thank you Rob, a great help🙏✅

So what are you grateful for?

It's your turn, give someone a shout-out and feel happier!!

Have a fantastic weekend ❤️

What are my thoughts on this week?

I have been more active on LinkedIn this week with more comments on other posts and this has seen more impressions on my posts, but my engagements have dropped by 17%. Maybe the poll skewed the figures? My video this week didn't perform as well as last week.

I also had a couple of posts that did less than the mental target I set myself of 1,000 impressions. So I will be mindful of that when creating content this week.

How do you measure your content performance? Do you review your activity?

How was your week?

Here is the breakdown.

Previous week

After a downward slide the previous week my content has picked up, mainly because I had a great start with my video on Monday Impressions up by 2% to 17,694 and engagements up by Engagements were also up by 4% to 678.

This week

This week has been another good week with 20,007 impressions, up another 5% But engagement’s are down. I think this is because a Poll gets lots of eyes, but not so many engagements. Something to think about when setting up the poll! Engagements were down by 17% to 597

Here are my five best-performing posts this week. Please note that my Proud Daddy post is still performing well this week too!!

If you want a hand with your content, please get in touch, and sign up for my weekly email that gives five new content ideas each week. I call it the Monday Nudge. Sign up here https://15mins.day/bonus
